High Phosphate Uptake

چکیده

Human red blood cells reach an equilibrium of phosphate distribution at 37 ° much faster with o . I I M or intermediate levels than with o.o2 M and lower phosphate levels. Other divalent anions added to 0.o2 M phosphate solutions have an action similar to that of the extra phosphate. A past observation that phosphate escapes from red cells more slowly than it enters them appears to have arisen from differences in the phosphate levels to which the cell membrane was exposed. The effect of o . i i M phosphate at 37 ° undergoes reversal when the temperature is lowered to 22 ° , and when the phosphate level is also lowered to 0.02 M. These properties of the red blood cell introduce difficulties in applying tests for mediation in the entry and exit of phosphate. The retarding action of estradiol disulfate, stilbestrol disulfate and stilbestrol on phosphate entry extends from 0.002 to o . I I M phosphate, and applies also to the exodus of phosphate.

Adaptive changes in phosphate uptake by the fungus Neurospora crassa in response to phosphate supply.

The phosphate uptake rate of Neurospora crassa germlings growing exponentially in media containing phosphate at concentrations between 10 mM and 50 micronM was virtually constant. The uptake characteristics of these germlings were studied in detail assuming the simultaneous operation of two uptake systems, one of low affinity and one of high affinity. The Km of the low-affinity system was const...

Simulation of the plant uptake of organophosphates and other emerging pollutants for greenhouse experiments and field conditions.

The uptake of the organophosphates tris(2-chloroethyl) phosphate (TCEP), tris(1-chloro-2-propyl) phosphate (TCPP), tributyl phosphate (TBP), the insect repellant N,N-diethyl toluamide (DEET), and the plasticizer n-butyl benzenesulfonamide (NBBS) into plants was studied in greenhouse experiments and simulated with a dynamic physiological plant uptake model. The calibrated model was coupled to a ...

Overexpression of an Arabidopsis thaliana high-affinity phosphate transporter gene in tobacco cultured cells enhances cell growth under phosphate-limited conditions.

A higher plant homologue to the high-affinity phosphate transporter gene of yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) PHO84 was isolated from Arabidopsis thaliana. Expression of the Arabidopsis gene PHT1 at high levels in tobacco-cultured cells increased the rate of phosphate uptake. The uptake activity attributable to the transgene was inhibited by protonophores, suggesting an H+ cotransport mechanism ...

Sepiolite, Palygorskite, and Triple Super Phosphate on the Uptake of Heavy Metals by Two Iranian Wheat Cultivars Inoculated With Piriformospora indica Fungus

Background and Purpose: Soil remediation in contaminated soils is an important factor of environmental research. This research evaluated the effect of sepiolite, palygorskite, and triple super phosphate (TSP) on decreasing the heavy metals uptake by wheat cultivars inoculated with Piriformospora indica (P. indica). Materials and Methods: Treatments included applying sepiolite, palygorskite (at...

High phosphate uptake requirements of the scleractinian coral Stylophora pistillata.

Several untested aspects of the regulation of inorganic nutrient uptake were examined using nutrient depletion experiments with the symbiotic coral Stylophora pistillata. The total inhibition of phosphate uptake in artificial seawater lacking sodium indicates the involvement of a sodium/phosphate symporter for the uptake of phosphate across host membranes. Addition of ammonium or nitrate (up to...

Positive feedback regulates switching of phosphate transporters in S. cerevisiae.

The regulation of transporters by nutrient-responsive signaling pathways allows cells to tailor nutrient uptake to environmental conditions. We investigated the role of feedback generated by transporter regulation in the budding yeast phosphate-responsive signal transduction (PHO) pathway. Cells starved for phosphate activate feedback loops that regulate high- and low-affinity phosphate transpo...
